Carpenter Family 1841 Census lookup
« on: Thursday 14 August 08 20:37 BST (UK) »
Hi
Can anyone please help with a couple of stray members of my Carpenter Family.
They are
Lucy Carpenter born 1817 & Sarah Carpenter Born 1821 both born in Kent
By 1841 they are no longer living with their parents but I have no idea if they have married or are simply employed away from the family home.
I would expect to find them in the Ash ( family home ) or possibly Sandwich area.
Sorry its a bit vague but it is all I have!

Many thanks
Max

Hi Max

Were they born in Ash and, if so, do you happen to know if there was more than one Sarah CARPENTER born there at about that time only there are these :-\

1851

69 Holborn Hill, St Andrew Holborn, Middlesex (London)

Sarah CARPENTER servant unm 29 b.Ashe Kent living in the household of Richard LLOYD master tobacco manufacturer

HO107/1527 folio 142 page 12
..................

1861

21 King Street, Ramsgate, Kent

Sarah CARPENTER servant unm 39 b.Ash - living in the household of Richard H SACKETT, baker

RG9/535 folio 9 page 13
....................

1841 it's difficult to tell due to no birthplaces being given - there is a 20 year old Sarah CARPENTER born Kent servant to Abraham COURTNEY, surgeon in Ramsgate which may or may not be the above Sarah CARPENTER HO107/469 folio ? page 6 :-\

Hi
She is certainly the only Sarah Carpenter born in Ash next Sandwich alas this is not the only Ash in Kent and I have no idea about the other one.
As you probably found the Carpenter name is not as common as you might think so there is a good chance this is the same person, if so she sure got about! I must admit my hope was that she may have been living with other family members but it does not look that way.

Many thanks

Max

Max, I have amended that 1841 census entry from Sandgate to Ramsgate.  No idea why I wrote Sandgate - must have been thinking of something else at the time ::)
