JACKSON GOODINGS OR GOODINS
« on: Saturday 16 August 08 20:41 BST (UK) »
Look up please. Would anyone be kind enough to check the ship passenger or emigrant lists for the above person who emigrated to Canada? He was born 1896, Middlesbrough, England.  I have him as living in Winnipeg where he enlisted in Canadian army in 1915. His full name was Jackson Leopold Goodings although his name may be listed as Goodins or other slight variation.

I presume Brionne gave the information from the findmypast info.
http://www.findmypast.com/passengerListPersonSearchStart.action?redef=1

http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/passenger/index-e.html - you can also look them up here. Often even if only initials are given leaving England, full names are given coming into Canada. It is always worth checking both sets of info.
Unfortunately, this family appears to be George, Ellen, and John (page 27).

It's possible that he worked his passage, or was a young merchant seaman who jumped ship - he might not show up on the passenger lists in this case.

Thanks to you both for your efforts and replying so promptly.  I will keep looking for him and it is possible that he didnt show up on the passenger list for reasons given. I think that he probably went on his own as a very young man. He was killed in 1917 and his mother had died before he left UK. Do you both think that if he travelled to Canada with the Canadian army that he might show on a separate passenger list which I am not aware of? This may have been the case.
