OK, so not sure where I got 1892 from, but the DOB of the illegitimate female child born to Edith Mary Boulton, does fit with the birth reg in Q3 1898 for Florence Ellen Boulton, highworth reg district.

I'm guessing that if Florence was christened, then she was probably christened in either Buscot or Inglesham.

Oh well done! Well I mean for finding the information - although this will alter things slightly for Sarah but hopefully will sort it all out!

Good luck tomorrow!

Hello Wifeywebb,

Thank you for looking that up for me.

Does this mean that William Iles is listed as the father?

I do know that Jesse Ball was not at the birth of my Florence but she has him named on two marriage certs so he is obviously part of her life at a later stage.

I think getting the marriage cert for Jesse & Edith is the way to go next on this one to see what that confirms.

The date of birth is out a bit but then again people weren`t as accurate in those days.

 Regards
Sarah

Hi Sarah,
well at least with the marriage certificate you would know who you were dealing with for that. Then it may have been that Jesse brought her up from a young age and was more her father than William so that is what she referred to him as. I have no real idea but I don't suppose adoption procedures where necessary at that time.

Hi,

I did check the parish registers for Inglesham and Highworth, but unfortunately, Florence wasn't christened in either.

As you know Jesse Ball was listed as her father, I think you're probably right about the marriage cert. for Jesse and Edith, and at leasst we know that Edith did have an illegitimate female child which I suspect is probably Florence.

The bastardy records show that William Iles was the reputed father, and there is a DOB for the child. If the Florence Ellen Boulton registered in the highworth district has the same DOB, and Edith is the mother, then I guess it would solve the mystery.

If I can help at all with your quest, please feel free to ask.

Good luck, and would love to know the outcome in the future.
Paula

Hello Lauton 4675,

I did not get the birth cert will need to check with my sister to see if she did so.

I do have a 1911 census showing Edith who is now married to Jesse with their children , my great granny listed as Nellie Boulton and Edith`s sister Lilly. (Both Edith and Lilly are listed as being born in Buscot, Berks). They were living in Inglesham at the time.

regards
Sarah
