Ramsey baptisms
« on: Wednesday 20 August 08 09:27 BST (UK) »
I am looking for the baptism of Daniel Crawthorne/Cawthorne who may have been born in Ramsey 1844ish. I think he was in the Oundle workhouse on the 1851 census with his sister Mary Ann. This may also have been his mother's name. As an adult he gave his father's name as Daniel too but I'm just so stuck. Can anyone help? Thanks Toz

Ramsey was in Hunts, and there are people on that board with the transcript of Ramsey parish register who may not read the Cambs board. But why do you think he may have been born in Ramsey when his 1851 birthplace is Oundle?

http://freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl has the birth of a Daniel James Cawthorne in the March quarter 1847 in Oundle registration district, but the age is a bit adrift

He confuses me completely because as a private in the 77th regiment of foot on 1861 and 1871 census returns he gives his POB as Ramsey; as a bridegroom in 1877 (still a Private in the 77th) as Nottingham and then subsequent census returns as Nottingham. I fell sure these are all the same chap as the details fit. It's just his origins that have got me stumped. Maybe his military records at the NA in Kew will shed some light...Regards Toz

Nottingham on his marriage cert merely means that he was resident in that parish at the time of his marriage, not that he was born there.

I would mark this thread as completed and repost on the Hunts board, where someone may have the Ramsey transcript
