British Home Children Registry

Just wondering if anyone's used Perry Snow's British Home Children Registry, if so what sort of info did you get back?

There is an entry that I'm interested in, which is marked as 'claimed', but in Perry's reply to an email I sent asking what information would be provided on payment of the $CAN20 fee, he hasn't told me.

I'm a bit wary of sending the money without knowing what I'll get in return.

Perry Snow's data base used to be free on-line but there were some problems between he and other members of the British Home Children community and he has taken his information away and now is available for a price!
Almost all information re British Home Children is available in other data bases and if you can give us the name(s) I'm sure we can help you or point you in the right direction.

The BHCR entry is marked 'claimed' and I was hoping therefore that there might be more information available there than elsewhere. I'd really like to confirm (or not) that this child is the right one.  And if he is the right one maybe get some more leads.

Most of the details are in that thread, but briefly:

He's Clifford CLARKE, age 14, a passenger on the Tunisian, departing Liverpool 24th April 1902 for Montreal and Quebec. He is listed as one of a group of children from the Liverpool Catholic Childrens Protection Society. Destination is given as St Vincent Rescue School 11 St Thomas Street Montreal.

Hi Andy,
When I did some transcribing for Perry White a few years ago - we were trying to match up BHC with people on the BHC rootweb list - in other words - if there was a message in the archive from someone looking for a particular home child - we would put that persons name and email addy against that home child in the data base - therefore marking them as claimed.
Now the problem is that many of the archive messages were old and the email addy no longer valid.
By marking your BHC as claimed, it means that there is a message on the mailing list from someone who is/was looking for him.
Are you on the mailing list?

Ah... so it doesn't necessarily mean that there will be any additional info?

No - You are not going to find anything on Perry's list that you haven't already got!

I've had a quick search of the mailing list archives and there doesn't seem to be anything relating specifically to the Clifford CLARKE on that passenger list.

Well.... I've now had another email from Perry Snow giving me the information he has on Clifford 

It seems my quick scan of the BHC mailing list was a little too quick, there is some very interesting information on Clifford there..... I'll update the original thread when I have more details.
