Mining death
« on: Tuesday 26 August 08 23:12 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out any information about a family mystery. A John Byrne who allegedly 'threw himself' down the pit, possibly Hanley Deep Pit. But I can't find any history or news archives from the normal searches, any info would be greatly appreciated please.
Thanks

An alleged date would be a help.
What candidate deaths are registered ?

Hi Cabriokas,

Welcome to rootschat!

List of North Staffordshire mining fatalities 1821 to 1995 here:
http://www.stokecoll.ac.uk/NSCFWeb/JLD.htm

There is a J. Byrne listed for 31st June 1939  Chatterly Whitfield Pit  aged 51, nothing for him under Hanley Deep Pit, but as Pauline says, we need to know date of death at least.

What 'normal searches' have you done?
