Hi CarolW,
I did have a look but with such a common name there are several - wondered about Blackheath what it would come under? Lewisham / Medway/ Greenwich I haven't got a clue just wanted to narrow it down a little. :)

I'm afraid it could come under either Lewisham or Greenwich, as Blackheath straddles both.

However, on freebmd, using his full name, and those two districts, there are only two between 1858 and 1862:

Sep 1859  HARRIS  George William    Greenwich  1d 517
Mar 1860  HARRIS  George William     Lewisham  1d 724

You can either purchase both, or take a gamble on one. Unfortunately both would result in the same age calculation on the census. There's really no other way, and even this has no guarantees, as the index may not be in his full name at all. Sometimes you just have to take a chance.

You didn't say which census you found him on. It might help if we could look at that. Do you have the reference details? And about his fathers name - is that a definite for Walter?

If you know his father/mothers name you can put a condition on your application that you only want it if father/mothers name was ..........   If it's the wrong one then the GRO only charge a £3 search fee

Hi Nigelo and Carole,
Thank you both for your help I think I will order his marr. cert first which should confirm fathers name as Walter and could give me an age for George  which will help. I will keep you posted.  :)

The marriage of William George HARRIS to Kate Sarah HUNT shows him as born c1860ish and his father as Nathaniel Mason HARRIS - if I'm following the right family, the one you want was baptised 1864 see http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,363030.msg2770232.html#msg2770232

Hi Casalguidi,
Thanks for the link  ;D yes that is my lot so I can definitely rule out the Harris /Hunt marriage as father is Nathaniel and not Walter.
I found your quote
Walter Henry Landells HARRIS baptised All Saints Lambeth 17 Apr 1859 son of Walter & Elizabeth of 25 Stanley Street, Brompton - stone mason

Florence Emily HARRIS baptised St Mary Lambeth 2 Mar 1862 dau of Walter &  Elizabeth of St Albans St, stone mason

George William HARRIS baptised 10 Apr 1864 St Mary Lambeth son of Walter & Elizabeth of White Hart Square, mason

Alfred Ernest HARRIS baptised St Mary Lambeth 1 Oct 1865 son of Walter & Elizabeth of White Hart Square, stone mason
So exciting, hope they help us knock down that brick wall  :)
