FTM - No Internet Connection?

Last night I was having a very productive evening with FTM2008 all was going swimmingly.
Then my green leaves turned grey 
When going to websearch it says "no internet connection".
If I go to File -> Go Online - I get an error message saying "Can not go online as this comupter is not connected to the internet"

I can assure you it is - in fact I'm using it to post this 
I've tried everything I can think of, including uninstalling the program and re-installing it fresh - no joy.

Any ideas or suggestions please?

Hi Kia,

Hope you still have your booklet from FTM pack.
There is on-line support available for problems ( page 12) and also a 1880 no. for support during business hours (97).

Had a similar problem myself and they sorted it for me.

Otherwise has your free trial expired??

The box and everything that was in it is packaged up among many of our belongings in the garage. I'm a press buttons now, read manuals later type and to be honest I don't think I ever even looked at it once I installed the software.
We don't have 1880 numbers in the UK.
Not using a free trial, I've a 12 month world sub to ancestry (bought before FTM, so I didn't even get to use the free 3 months offer that came with it).
The actual program loads and works fine in so much as I can enter information, it's just that it's telling me there is no internet connection, when clearly there is and thus because it seems to not see the connection, all my green leaves are grey.
I know it's not essential to the running of the program but I do use the websearch feature.

Oh !  You should still have used the free 3 months offer !  I'd only just re-subscribed when I purchased FTM with a free offer, and they extended my world subscription.  Contact them, and see if you can still do it.

Have you checked your firewall isn't blocking the connection?

Yes, I don't run any firewalls on my actual computer because we use routers (OH is a cisco network engineer).
I've even tried connecting my PC directly to the modem (no protection at all) and the problem still exists.

I've tried closing the file, closing the program, a different file, a new tree, uninstalling and reinstalling, a fresh install on my other computer (Win2KPro instead of Vista) and the same problem exists.
I've tried emailing support but haven't even recieved an acknowledgement that my request for support has been recieved.
The only number I can find in the booklet is in the USA and I'm in the UK, so that's not much use.
I'm at a loss as to what to try next.

Uninstalling programs is not always straight forward.  Probably unseen keys and values get left behind in the Registry.  I suspect that your FTM license number is the problem and that according to their database you are no longer entitled to access their on-line records.

Only FTM will able to help you.

With the helpsuggestions of someone on the A* community I have uninstalled FTM, deleted all the files left in the program folder, rebooted the PC, reinstalled FTM, installed the patch, rebooted PC, it appears to be fixed.
Actually I'd go as far as to say improved. I was unable to install the patch as it caused the program to crash (it wouldn't even open the program).

I've got a feeling my mobile phone software was probably involved as when I tried to install the patch the menu for the phone studio would come up, I've uninstalled that (I don't use it and can always put it on my other computer if need be instead) as well today and the FTM patch installed just fine.

Oh well, who knows why it stopped working, but at least it seems to be fixed now.
