Birmingham South
« on: Wednesday 27 August 08 22:48 BST (UK) »
Hi my mum was born 19th september 1925  and is registered under Birmingham South, as she has now passed away,  and she didnt have a birth certificate I wondered what area this was,  she lived in Walsall when she met my dad in 1944.
I can recall her saying were she was born but never took any notice, I listen now to everything what my dad tells me. thanks
Sue

Whats your mums name?  You might be able to find her birth registration online as i think BMD had registrations past 1925 for birmingham south

The local registry office would now be Birmingham

http://www.birmingham.gov.uk/registeroffice.bcc

If you have the GRO volume and page number references you can order from the General Registry Office direct. That information is for the GRO only. Local registry offices for a birth just need the date and name and the fact the registration was in then then Birmingham South registration district. Further details such as parents, address etc help them confirm they have the right birth, if the name is fairly common.

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

As Julie says the project FreeBMD which is transcribing the GRO indexes is starting to get into the second decade and beyond.

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

Its coverage of the first two quarters of 1925 is pretty good, but none existant for the second two.

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/progressB.shtml#1910

You can look her up her birth registration in the actual quarterly GRO registers indexes themselves at Ancestry.

Valda
