Chorlton, Lancashire
« on: Friday 28 January 05 09:59 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I am about to send for an 1892 marriage certificate, location Chorlton. Does anyone know which local registry office I am best making my application to? I have seen conflicting advice suggesting both Manchester and Salford. Will it make any difference if I happen to send it to the wrong one?

Hi craggus,

Depends exactly where and when - could be either Manchester, Salford or Trafford - have you the GRO ref - that should tell you.

Try this site as well they are quite quick - but they have there own reference number:
http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/index.html

Cheers

Keith

Hi Keith,

Thanks for your reply.

I had already tried the lancashirebmd site but could not find my particular wedding there. The GRO reference is volume 8c, p. 985

Since making the posting this morning I decided to take the bull by the horns and sent off my application to the Manchester offices... hope I got lucky  :)

Thanks.

I should explain that my reason for the rush was that my Ancestry subscription expires on Wednesday and I desperately want to get the marriage certificate before then for some last minute research! I have sent off to Manchester, so hopefully it might just be back with me by Wednesday, fingers crossed  :)
