This is brilliant Jenn. Thanks so much for all this extra information.

I will put it into my database; I know know a whole lot more about this family than ever before! I can't help wondering if Rod Laver, the tennis player, might have been related to this family somehow? Mind you, it looks as if there were other Laver families in Victoria around the same time.

Kind regards and thanks again

Philip

I  do  know  that Rod Laver was a Queenslander but it would be interesting to see where his origins were

Thanks jenn

I don't want to impose any more. The information you have given me is fantastic.

The only think I'd really like now is the memorial inscription from the Leongatha cemetery. According to Family History Online, both Francis (1910) and Elizabeth (1938) are buried there, but infuriatingly is just gives a year and nothing more detailed.

Maybe someone will have the indexes either on fiche or in a printed form.

Kind regards and thanks

Philip

A well-known Victorian LAVER family comprised the seven sons of farmer Jonas LAVER and his wife Mary Ann FRY.

They included:
William Adolphus LAVER (1866-1940), Professor of Music at the University of Melbourne

Also Alfred Edmund LAVER (1858-1927), Charles William LAVER (1863-1937), Frank Jonas LAVER (1869-1919), Ralph Herbert LAVER (1874-1962), and Arthur and Rudolph.

You can read about them in Wikipedia ...

Hi

Perhaps contact the Secretary of the Leongatha Cemetery Trust who should be able to give you the dates of death a dates of burial from the Trust records.

Many thanks for this additional information. I wonder if there is a link back in England between Jonas LAVER and Francis LAVER? That may have to wait for antoher day, though!

Thanks, too, for the link to the South Gippsland Genealogical Society. I have dropped them an email.

Best wishes and thanks

Philip Candy
