Has anyone got info. on Valan Elmson ?

Is the christian name Valan a local name as I cannot find this name anywhere ?

I've never hear of it either - I'm wondering if it's a mistranscription! Does she ever appear elsewhere than on this 1881 census?

Have you looked at earlier/later census to check the name? (Are you sure the surname is elmson in the first place? Looking at the image I reckon it could be Johnson ...)

On the 1901 census she is correctly registered as Valan Johnson, yet the 1881 census is states ' Valan or Valau Elmson ???? '

It says Valan Johnson on the 1881 census return itself - the transcriber has just had a bad day...
