Did you solve your Marriott/ Gretton problem?it was interesting to read that you were trying to find out the same things my Dad had being trying to discover for years in the pre - internet era! My grandmother was Laura Marriott ( Gert ). I think your great grandma was known as Elsie? John Marriott was a footman who worked his way up to be a a butler and is on the 1891 census at Goldicote House - where he worked - and his family lived nearby at Goldicote Cottages on the estate. He disappears from later census returns as he died in 1894 and the family moved to Sutton Coldfield. The older girls would have gone into service soon after this. Fanny  then marries Bill Grinnell and moves to Coleshill in Warwickshire where she appears on the 1901 census. I have photos of both John Marriott and Fanny which I shall try to attach for you here. Fanny and Bill were caretakers at the Catholic Boys Home in Coleshill until the 1930s. Gert and Fred both lived in the Stetchford/Castle Bromwich area of Birmingham. My Aunt used to say that Fanny was a real lady and had eloped with John. The photo of him here shows him at Stapleford Hall where he worked before he married - Back row third from left. They seem to be in Market Drayton, Shropshire around 1879 where the photo of Fanny is taken but I've know idea where they lived there.
