Hi Jasper,

Is this referring to this thread?
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,324053.0.html

Anyway I can see Christmas Marriott with a son John in the 1851 census: John age 6 born Caldecote Huntingdonshire
(HO107/1747 53 3)

Hi Jasper

Yes I do remember the Gretton/Marriott case well!

glad you sorted out which Gretton family Fanny came from - I cant remeber all the details but at least you can go back to the other thread now and find all the info that related to that Fanny.

Re John - if he was a butler (and I believe that had come up soewhere else, was it daughter's marriage?) then that could well explain why he was never with Fanny and the family. He probably lived in at the big house where he worked.
Is ther any indication of the address of this house on the marriage cert? Might help find him in the censuses (now we can rule out John the Clothier and John the platelayer).
Havong said that, didnt he pop up somewhere else as a Railway labourer? that will need checking again at that will be a differetn John to "our" John who we now know is a butler!

Hope this makes sense, I am working from memory, havent read through old thead again!
