marriage in aberystwyth
« on: Thursday 04 September 08 15:58 BST (UK) »
not sure if this is the right section to ask this, bit of a beginner, but I have obtained my grandparents marriage certificate showing they married in aberystwyth on 18.8.1930 (thos albert connolly and ruby fox) but here's the problem.

my grandfather lived and worked in the queen's hotel and so I can't trace his date of birth etc from the 1901 census so that means i can't trace his father either. Plus my g'mother's address as noted on the certificate isn't where the family was living in 1901.
i have contacted the archives in aberystwyth who are very kindly trying to do a bit of research but i don't know if there's anything else I can be doing. I now my father was born in 1932 in shrewsbury so that meant they had moved there relatively soon after marriage.

i am waiting on my g'mothers birth certificate but any suggestions for what i can do now other than twiddle my thumbs

From my experience the ladies in the Archives are both helpful and knowledgeable.   Have you a marriage certificate?   It will show the fathers' names and occupations.

Strangely the Archives, Registrar and other local government offices are located in what once was the Queen's Hotel.   The once grand Victorian building occupies a corner site at the northern end of the promenade.

Cheers Dave
