Clean up needed for a war hero please

Can Uncle James be cleaned up please?  This photo was taken in Salonica in June 1945.  James was serving in Greece with the No 1 Bomb Disposal Platoon.  Unfortunately he died a few days before the war ended. 

Would really appreciate whatever can be done with this!

Here is a clean up from me.
Unfortunately I got a bit carried away and thought the chain fence was a crack.
Looking too close, sorry, it was too late before I realised.
Hope it is still ok.
