Search for Voller, Camberwell Surrey 1861...

I would like some help please.  I am having trouble finding  my Voller family on some of the censuses, I think, because of misindexing/bad handwriting. I've tried many spelling variations.  In 1860, the family were living at 4 Waterloo St Camberwell SRY (defacto husband's death cert).  I'll list the family individuals and the census where I have NOT found them

Mary Ann VOLLER b 1811 at Peckham/Camberwell, 1861, 1891 census ( found in 1901 in Peckham Workhouse)

Henry VOLLER b ?1842 Camberwell, 1861, 1871, 1891, 1901 with ?wife, Catherine.  (1881 Henry was in Holloways prison)

Mary Ann VOLLER b 1846 Camberwell, 1861 (found after 1867 marriage to REDSTON(e))

On 1861 index there is a 47 yr old Mary A Poller, bn Peckham.

Ref in index Rg9 380 27 51 (I am using ancestry)

She is actually indexed 3 times - twice under Poller and once under Roller.
I was eager to look at the image to see if by any chance she was a Voller!

However, I have tried all three, and try as I might I cannot find a person with this name (or anything vaguley like it) on any of the pages it brings up!

Any one else get on any better?

I can't find them either for the times you mention but then with the exception of married Mary Ann and Henry in 1881 I can't find them anywhere else either.   

Tried to recap but getting nowhere.   I note the death in Camberwell in 1860 was a George - can find no marriage of a George Voller to a Mary Ann, can find no births (or baptisms) for a Henry or Mary Ann in relevant time/place frame.
Please don't think I am being rude but can you state where/when you have found them?   I can't find the 1901 Peckham entry either.   I'm just getting nowhere so thought it best to check all your sources re. this family and try to get a clearer picture.

There is a birth for a MAry Fox Voller in Jan/Feb/Mar 1846 in Camberwell - that is the nearest I could see. No ref on FreeBMD , but from full index is iv 54

Could that be her?

Hi Annette & Lizab,

Thank you for your help.  Believe me I feel a whole better knowing you have had trouble with this mob in the 1861 census.  Mary Ann b1811 is the wife of my convict ancestor, James Fox, who was transported to NSW in 1837.  I have been researching this family for 15 years & well before the internet indexing.  It was finding the birth cert of Mary Fox Voller, recently, that was the big Eureka moment to find out what happened to the family left behind in Camberwell.  I won't complicate matters by telling the whole story.

In the old days I perused microfilms on old readers for the Camberwell etc parish registers and the census.  So you could be of some further help if you could detail the 1861 entry for Roller as this was the one I could barely read & yet seemed to be the most promising.

The other entry I would like is the 1901 census for Henry & possible wife Catherine.

Mary Ann b 1811 died in 1904 aged 92!!! & her death cert gave me further links. She outlived nearly everyone.  She is shown as Vollor b Nunhead in the 1901 census, which I have.  Thank you so much, Gazania

The 1861 entry of Mary A Roller or Poller - managed to view it on findmypast but first letter of surname does not remotely look like a V - its either an R or a P.   She was alone, and a Laundress.

No trace of any of them in 1861 - must have eluded the enumerator.

Thank you Annette.  Years ago, I was stuck with the 1861 to try & find them.  But since then I have found the married names of the daughters (Mary Ann b1811 had  at least 6 kids) and have been able to track the family.  The 1861 niggled though as how did she cope for the second time in  again losing her breadwinner.  She was one very strong lady.   Thank you again & best wishes, Gazania
