Place of Birth
« on: Saturday 06 September 08 21:21 BST (UK) »
I was born in 1929 in 147a Mill Road, Everton, Liverpool.
Was this a Maternity Hospital, a Maternity House, or even a Workhouse?
Is there likely to be a Register of births, if so, how can I locate the owner?
Has anyone a photograph please?

To Ricky,

Thank you for reply.
Yes, I have previously contacted the Liverpool Records office.

I am still seeking details  of what 147a was exactly in 1929, and also where I can find a Register for that year.

Someone else on here seemed to have a similar query some time ago.

I don't think you'll be able to look at 1921/1931 census material, but you may find electoral roll information for the area for 1929.  Under the Freedom of Information Act, you can ask for information on addresses in the 1911 census on payment of a fee (about £50 IIRC), or if you can hang on until 2009 we will all gain a certain amount of access to these much more cheaply, so at least you can find out about the area 18 years previous.  The other problem you may have is that the house may well have been known as 147a when you were born there, but may not have always been numbered as such.

RIP 1949-10th January 2013

Best Wishes,  Nick.

Hi

I think you will find that 147a Mill Road, Everton was the Mill Road Infirmary and part of the West Derby Workhouse.

Limited records, Creed Register 1870-1939,  are at the Liverpool Records Office but I don't know whether they will be of much help.

Andy
