1841 census Christchurch
« on: Saturday 06 September 08 21:39 BST (UK) »
Would anyone be able to find James and Eliza Guard in Christchurch with sons Charles b. 1825 Hope Cove, Devon, Eliza b. 1829, same place, James b. 1831 Broadstairs, Kent, William b. 1839 same place and Frederick b. Kent I think. I mostly need to link confirm a link between James(senior) and his son Charles. James should be a coastguard or customs house officer born in Gwinear, Cornwall. I found him and his family on Genuki (Devon) but Charles (my g g grandfather) wasn't included in the family names.  His full name is Charles Wray Haddesley Guard. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks. Deoxy

Thanks Pam, That looks like them. Shame Charles wasn't with them but considering they were all in Devon and are then all in Christchurch, it makes it more likely that they belong together... Thanks very much for that.  I'm in touch with another Guard descendant on Genes so that's two of us. If there are any more, I wonder if they have any more information. I think there's at least one who may have some of James' children on her tree. I haven't been able to contact her as I haven't subscribed and maybe neither has she because she hasn't sent any messages to either of us yet. The census info is very helpful, thanks very much. Deoxy

Hello Pam. Thanks for your offer to make contact. Lesley and I have been working on the Guard line for a while now. It's nice to be able to test out names and dates with her. Jennifer is related too and she's sent me a couple of messages. Ann is yet another relative. I don't know who Megan is and there is someone called Andrea whose names seem to match with the family you found in Christchurch. I think you brought me luck. I kept finding lots  of info last night including a possible link through James Guard to the Eustis family of Cornwall which already has an established tree and if the link is right it will take James' mothers side back to someone born in 1620.....Anyway, getting back to your question - yes please, if you could ask them if they are able to contact me through genes that would be very useful thanks.
