A Spade Plater, aka Shovel Plater, was a Smith (or Blacksmith) who forged by hand or power hammer a block of heated steel into the shape of a spade or shovel.

Would a spadeplater have worked in a spade mill ???

The last working water-driven spade mill in daily use in the British Isles is located at Templepatrick, Co. Antrim www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-pattersonsspademill
