I'm wondering if we could be loosely connected.  My father, James Gray, was born in Prestonpans and his mother was called Mary Fraser. Her parents were Janet McKinlay, who married James Fraser of Prestonpans. (I have the dates if you’re interested). Janet McKinlay’s parents were, according to her marriage certificate, James McKinlay, who was born in 1818, and died in 1876, and Isabella Pryde. Isabella’s parents were William Pryde, a collier, and – it looks like – Ellen Kerr, on Isabella’s death certificate. Does that tie in with any of the Prydes you have, and if so I'd love to see whatever information you have.

Grays, Dunns, McKinlays, Frasers, Hannays, Thomsons, East Lothian, Dumfriesshire, Glasgow. Adams, Kings, Floods, Woolfe's, Exeter, London

Hi there could be a connection as most of the Pryde family were colliers and the names fit in.With so many of the same name it has been a real headache at times.I will keep this and if I come across anything I will let you know

They seem to be a bit like the Frasers in Prestonpans/Tranent, and why, oh, why did they have to call everyone William, James, and David? ???  It makes it so confusing. Just when you think you've got a grasp on the family you discover it's not the same person, but a cousin. Do you happen to know whether all the Prydes originally came from East Lothian, or did they move there from somewhere else?
