Records Office Request.
« on: Thursday 11 September 08 19:38 BST (UK) »
HI THERE.
i don't suppose that anyone will be visiting the west bromwich record or registration office anytime in the near future. if so i would like to make a request please.
i am looking for the oringal copy or details of a marriage which took place in the parish church of west bromwich on the 22nd may 1854. i seem to think the GRO entry is incorrect in regards the bribes forename. the cert that i got is for martha osborne aged 18 and john ward aged 23. brides father is henry a blacksmith.
however i can find no henry blacksmith with a dau named martha b 1836 living in and around the district in the 1851 census. but i have found a henry blacksmith with a dau named margaret b c1837 and this is supported by igi record of her christening.
also on the later censuses and death cert johns wife is margaret ward not martha.
thus i have a feeling that martha should read margaret on the oringal cert.
so i am wondering if anyone should be so kind and check this out for me whilst visiting the office if that is permissonable at all.
i will be very grateful for any help, the reason i ask of this request, i live in south yorks.
best regards jonny.

hi donna,

a big thank you for taking the time out and trying to help me, you are one in a million.

it was as i suspected, so i am not duly concerned with the outcome.

i can only conclude that someone may have missheard the name martha for margaret, or margaret herself, for reasons unknown to us, may have been using the name martha at that time in her life. i have come across other instances where a person was known by differant names at various times during thier life time.

anyhow thanks donna

my regards jonny
