Hi

The actual Scottish images are not available to view on Ancestry so I can't check the spelling of this particular 1861 entry.   He is shown as a BOOTMAKER employing 2 men & 2 boys which may be an incorrect transcription of his occupation.  The surname is indexed as FOYS

High St Dysart - all b Dysart

Thomas Foys 31 b Dysart
Janet Smith Foys 28
David Foys 1

Hi Sio

The marriage and births are on the IGI - good timing  :)
Janet Smith Taylor  and Thomas Foggo 17 Jan 1859 Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh Midlothian

Children - all born Dysart
David 2 Dec 1859
Isabell Foggo 7 Aug 1861 (known as Georgina?)
George Taylor 12 Nov 1864
Watson 12 Jan 1867
Helen Philp 24 Nov 1868
Thomas 19 May 1871
John 3 Sep 1874

The family seem to have well followed the Scottish naming patterns  :D - the parents births are also on the IGI (as you may have)
Thomas Foggo born 30 Jun 1829, baptised 3 Jul 1829 Dysart, Fife parents David Foggo and Helen Philp
and Janet
Janet Taylor born 18 Nov 1832 baptised 1 Dec 1832 Dysart parents George Taylor and Isabella Watson

Did your Boat Maker come from a census record? Could be a bad transcription of Boot Maker  - but somewhat better than the transcription of "Factory" that I found recently ;D

Trish

Edit: Is this the same family as your other query? There seem to be two different families, being the daughters of George  Taylor and Isabella Watson & another group, family of Isabella Watson & husband not on any of the census records?

HI,

Thanks for all that - never would have thought Foggo could turn into Foys!! But she was Janet Smith Taylor so I think that 1861 is right. The 1881 Boatmaker was from the 1881 England Census on Familysearch.org I will easily defer to bootmaker now though!! The giveaway is the shoemaking bit too - hardly going to be boat and shoe maker although not impossible.
Jane's brother was also a shoemaker , so there may be a connection that way further down the line.

Looks like a pretty full house in 1871!

Yes they are the same family as my other query -quite a few them so am digging quite a bit and of course my family had zero knowledge or even names passed down through the generations!

Isabella Senior is on her own in the census after 1851 cos hubby George died in 1859. There are several other Taylor families in Dysart and surrounding areas so am just noting any I come across and seeing if they link up.

I know that they moved to Liverpool between 1874 and 1881. I am not sure if some remained in Scotland though, or died.

Thomas died in 1889 and Janet in  1907 in Liverpool area.

Of the children,
I  am guessing that Isabella may have died - born 1862  and not on 1871 or 1881 with the family.
I am wondering about Watson aswell as he is age 4 on the 1871 and not on the 1881 with the family. He may have been working somewhere but unlikely as in 1881 the rest of the kids were still at home and up to the age of 21.
Helen age 2 on the 1871 is not on the 1881 with them either.

So the quest continues!!
