Charlotte Keightley abt. 1812 West Ferry
« on: Monday 15 September 08 23:56 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm not familiar with the Lincoln area and I've tried searching for information for West Ferry. Quite a few census records show that Charlotte Keightley originated from West Ferry - I've tried Genuki and the Lincolnshire FH site page with little success.

The LDS has a marriage for Charlotte Keightley and George Blackburn 10 Feb 1835, Flixbororugh.

George Blackburn bap 1812 Flixbororugh, census records show he was born in Flixborough.

Any info re. Charlotte Keightley and family will be much appreciated.

Thanks - Yvonne Hills Pontardawe S.Wales U.K

In case you didn't know, we're talking about Owston Ferry http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Owston_Ferry

Looking at the IGI batch for Owston - C030941 - there are two baptisms for KEIGHTLEY boys, sons of John and Mary around that time.

Of possible interest to you I think is the 1812 baptism of Charlotte, transcribed as daughter of John and Mary KETCHLEY.

In fact, I think all of these were "yours"

HARIOT KEETLEY   Christening: 07 JUL 1808 Owston
JAMES KEIGHTLEY Christening: 25 MAY 1814 Owston
ROBT. KEIGHTLEY Christening: 21 MAR 1816 Owston
CHARLOTTE KETCHLEY  Christening: 06 APR 1812 Owston
WM. KETCHLEY Christening: 06 MAY 1810 Owston
GEORGE KEETLEY  Christening: MAY 1804 Owston
HANAH KEETLEY  Christening: 17 OCT 1802 Owston
ANNE KEITLEY  Christening: 07 MAR 1818 Owston
JOHN KEETLEY  Christening: 13 JUN 1806 Owston

1851 census
Owston
Mary KEIGHTLEY (wid) 77 Pauper, Butterwick
Phebe (dau,unm) 56 Ferry (blind)

NB:  Butterwick will be East or West Butterwick a few miles further down the Trent - not Butterwick near Boston.

Burials at Owston-
John KEIGHTLEY 15 June 1832 (63)
Mary KEIGHTLEY 16 Aug 1857 (83)

Hi,

Thank you so much for the prompt reply and so much information.

I would not have realised that the Owston baptisms were "mine".

Your help is much appreciated.

Best Wishes Yvonne Hills

Sorry, I missed one  :-[ I realised there ought to have been a Mary.

Hi,

Since I posted my last reply I had another look on IGI for a record for Phebe Keightley and found Phebe Keetly 24 Aug 1795 parents John & Mary Keetly.

I believe the same Phebe Keightley appears on the 1861 census with George Blackburn & wife Charlotte Blackburn (formerly Keightley) - census details RG9; Piece: 2401; Folio: 43; Page: 24 - Charlotte's sister or am I jumping the gun here so to speak?

I've found burial records that maybe John Keightley and Mary Keightley both in Owston.

Also a children of James & Phebe Keetley -

James Keetley 24 Aug 1772
William Keightley 28 Aug 1775
Mary Keetley 10 Nov 1776.

In view of this do you think it's worth buying parish CD's for Owston which will hopefully give me more info on this family.

Thank for taking time to read this

Best Wishes Yvonne

I don't really think that's jumping the gun - she's 10 years older than the Phebe I found in 1851 and she's blind too.  I'm sorry I missed Phebe's baptism  :-[  There only seems to have been one family of KEETLEYs in Owston around 1800.

Burial records?  The ones I gave earlier?
Burials at Owston-
John KEIGHTLEY 15 June 1832 (63)
Mary KEIGHTLEY 16 Aug 1857 (83)

There was a Phebe KEETLEY buried at Owston 9 March 1777 (no age given)

It's bugging me that my marriage index doesn't have entries for John/Mary and James/Phebe.

I wouldn't dream of telling you how to spend your money ;)

Hi,

Thanks for your prompt reply to my musings!

I had missed the burials you had, I'd printed out your reply and didn't realise I had them on a second page, there I was thinking I was being very clever   ???

Please don't apologise for missing anyone , it took me quite a few goes to find Phebe probably due to the variations in the spelling of the surname; you have been more than helpful.

It's a bit disappointing re. the marriages - is the index you have similar to the indexes on CD, available from Isle of Axholme FHS ?  if so I'm probably wasting my hard earned, the trouble with these ancestors is the fact they moved around so much, very inconsiderate  ;)

Thanks once again for your help.

Best Wishes Yvonne
