Hathrill/Hill
« on: Tuesday 16 September 08 13:21 BST (UK) »
Any info on James Hathrill born probably in 1828 (bapised 20 Jan 1828 in Longcot) and his wife Eliza Hill. I guess they married about 1849, but no details on their deaths. Their daughter Sarah Jane Hathrill was born 16 May 1850 and died 13 Nov 1933.
Thankyou

Some details for you :

A James HATHRILL married in the Sep qtr 1849  in Faringdon Registration District  Vol 6 Page 259, on the same page is Eliza HILL.

There is a Christening record for a James HATHRILL on 20 jan 1828 at East Lockinge - father James, mother Lucy.   I can also see another HATHRILL christening that may be of use: John 19 Nov 1826 also at East Lockinge (same parents).

I can find James (jnr) in 1841, 51 & 61 census - do you have this info ?

Just looking, East Lockinge is quite a way from Longcot, I'm new at this and in Australia,  so distances may be percieved differently. Do you think that would be right? Maybe it is the mother's family church.

You were right to be sceptical.

I didn't realise that I have the OFHS East Lockinge PR transcription.   Having looked at that resource, there are no HATHRILLs shown in baptisms (or anywhere in the register).   The records I quoted from are a new resource that has appeared recently on Ancestry.

Further to your PM - the family don't appear on any census after 1861 (that I can see), although there is a death of Eliza HATHRILL in Wandsworth district in 1910.

Dear Merilyn

There are only seven Hathrills listed in the Berkshire Burial Index (copyright Berkshire Family History Society).  None called James or Eliza.

However they are all listed as being buried at St Andrews, Shrivenham which is only about two miles down the road from Longcot.  Relatives maybe?

Will happily supply the details if required.
