Kelly is such a common surname in Ireland that it will probably be difficult to make a connection. Have you tried to find out if the workhouse records for the correct period exist?
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

There appears to be only one family of Kellys in 1901 John,Mary,Mary Katie, and George Ryan shoe maker.
1911.
Mary Kate George Ryan John and Mary, James and John.
By 1936/37. Piper Hill is now James Connolly Street.
George,Kate,Michael and Margaret,William Agnes and John.
Just the one family of Kellys each time.Lep

By the Way. Little of the original workhouse remains. It was demolished in the 1930's to make way for the present District Hospital.
But records are kept at the Nat: Archives of Ireland, but also some are in the Castlebar Central Library. Lep.

Thanks a million for the info on piper hill location.....Minute Books from the workhouse are actually held in the Nat Library.....Kildare St, having read through a few, they really only contain the daily running of the workhouse. They tell of repairs to the buildings, the amount of milk and potatoes, bedding etc..bought by the master as he reports to the board of guardians. There are medical letters reporting patient conditions, but very few names mentioned. Ill check out Castlebar library.....Thanks for your help,Lep.D seven.
