The next step is to join Genes Reunited to find census information

I see you wrote the above in 2008 so I don't know how far on you are with your research.  However, only the 1881 census is free to view, if you join Genes Reunited, the sub of which is fairly small, you will have to pay to view any census you are interested in £5 for 50 credits valid 30 days or £17.95 for 200 credits valid 90 days and each view will cost you 5 credits.  You may think that is OK, but once you get into your family research you will soon get through 50 credits.

You can ask on here for help.  As you've already seen people on here have been very helpful.

Lizzie - I have managed to do quite a lot of filling in blanks since 2008 but many thanks for your suggestions.  I have to try and pull all my information together into one document as I have many old documents as well as a tree on genereunited to pull togther!

Attached are copies of the photos of the watch key.  It is so interesting to learn so much about your family and their store.  I have been wearing the watch key on a chain and it never fails to get noticed and commented on.  And, to have the background information and photos is terrific.   The group is so generous to share all the background information.

interesting read this here is a photo of an old clock i just bought
its dated 24/6/07 so it could have been him or hids fathers work

it has the date 24 8 07 inside i am assuming it was the shop clock

Please forgive the very delayed reply - It is wonderful to see the clock!  How fantastic to find another. Do you still have it?  My GG Grandfather Carl Caltenbach passed away in Jan 1909. so he would have been 53 when your clock was made.  My Great grandfather who also worked in the shop would have been 27 and he married my great grandmother Annie 4 days after the clock was made on 28th August 1907!!!
