Eastwood Road, Goodmays , Essex

On my G Grandmothers death cert of 1950 it gives her address as Flat 17 Eastwood Road, Goodmays, Essex. She died in Severall's Mental Hospital, Colchester, Essex.

She was in an Asylum from 1912 - 1946. She was discharged to the care of her son. I do not know if her son owned the property in Eastwood Road.

Does anyone know if Flat 17 Eastwood, Road was part of a nursing home ?

Eastwood Road, Goodmayes is not far from another psychiatric hospital called Goodmayes Hospital which, I believe, is still functioing as a psychiatric hospital though on a much smaller scale than in the 1950s.
It is possible that she lived with a member of her family towards the endof her life or was considered to be capable of living in some kind of sheltered accommodation which would have been remarkably enlightened for the 1950s

Hi, Eastwood Road is in the main very large houses with what would have been servants quarters on the side. There are qite a few split up into flats, she could have lived with her brother in part of the house?

Next time I am passing that way I will have a look at number 17 for you.

Interesting that there was a Goodmays Psychiatric Hospital nearby.

I suppose being discharged to the care of her son could mean she lived with him or that he took charge of her affairs and found a suitable place for her to live after she left the Asylum in Kent in 1946 ?

She had 6 son's. One by the name of Thomas got married in Essex S.W. 3rd Q 1946. Her other son's lived in South London and Kent.
