Samuel Ceney of West Bromwich
« on: Thursday 18 September 08 15:56 BST (UK) »
My Great Grandfather was called Samuel Ceney.

He was born Jan/Feb/Mar 1871.  I have yet to send off for the Birth Certificate.

He married Rhoda Webb Jan/Feb/Mar 1897.  Again I need to get the Marriage Certificate.

I have done extensive search online, and I cant seem to find his Death date!!  Rhoda died 18 Dec 1966 so I know that much.

Anyone shed some light on this for me please?

Where have you looked - have you actually gone through the full index, quarter by quarter for every year from when he was last heard of (1897 marriage?) to say 1970?

Did he register his wife's death? that would narrow down his possible time of death considerably.

I've been looking at the BMD records in ancestry.com.

I havent a clue if it was him who registered his wife's death.  I have her date of death probably given to me by a family member.  Would her Death Certificate tell me who registered the death?

I know he had to have still been alive 1914 as they had their youngest child in that year.

The search continues.....

I've been looking at the BMD records in ancestry.com.

 - the partial free database (which fades out about 1920's/30's) or the Full index (available on subscription) that you have to search thorough quarter by quarter as I described?

Yes - death cert will say who registered it. I will look that up for you in a mo in the full indexes (wont take long if date is correct) and let yuo have the ref so you can send for the cert

Here we are - this looks like it though name is spelt differently

Oct/Nov/Dec 1966
West Bromwich reg district
ref 98 816

Rhoda CEREY age 93

you can send for the cert from
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

cost is £7 when you have the ref no - so when you get to that bit of the form make sure you tick the box to say you have the number

I am looking for the date of Death (as I previously mentioned!) of Samuel Ceney.  As I already mentioned............... I have the date of death of Rhoda Webb.

Thanx for the help ::)

sorry - I thought you wanted to see her death cert to see if Samuel registered her death!

Can I order it over the internet and see it now?

Otherwise I am quite capable of sending off for a Death Cert :)

You cannot see it on the internet - but you can order it online to be sent to you.

As I wasnt sure if you had access to the full indexes or not, I thought it would help to give you the ref in case you wanted to order it - I certainly didnt mean you weren't capable of ordering a cert!
