Mary Hanley 1816 Alnwick Northumberland

Hi Mary was baptised on  26 May 1816  at Clayport Or Green Batt Meeting House-Church Of Scoalnwickr Presby, Alnwick,Northumberland, these are the details on the IGI with parents Henery and Mary Hanley, but despite searching I cannot find anymore info on Mary's parents or if she had any siblings, there doesn't seem to be any Hanleys on the 1841 census for Alnwick.

Mary married Michael Docherty on 23/5/1836 at All Saints in Newcastle so maybe her family followed,  I know Michaels roots are in County Monaghan so there may be a possiblity the Hanley family is misspelt it could be Hanlon and of Irish descent, any info or ideas would be appreciated.

Hi Julie,

The IGI also has a baptism for Ann Hanley at the same church 17 Aug 1795, with father John, so may be related

The marriage is in the All Saints Newcastle transcripts, but  doesn't give any more information, except that Mary's surname is HANDLEY, both signed X, both were of the parish, and the witnesses were Edward Murray & Jos. Pearson.
Pearson signed quite a few so was probably a church official, maybe Edward Murray means something?

Thanks for your replies.  I am sure that Ann 1795 with father John and the other John with his family in the 1861 census must be related somehow.  I couldn't find any other Hanley's in the IGI for Alnwick I haven't even come across a birth for John c1807.  I did try checking on freebmd for a death for Henery and his wife Mary under Hanley and Handley working on the assumption if Mary was born 1816 they would have been born around 1785-1800 era, but no joy, their marriage isn't on the IGI so that would have helped.  William being born around 1837 in Newcastle would seem to fit in with Mary's marriage to Michael Dogherty/Docherty, perhaps John and his family stayed around the area for a while before going back to Alnwick. 

Barbara I haven't had chance to read through the Alnwick transciptions 1,500 pages, I've added it to favourites many thanks for the link, will look when the kids are at school.

Hi Julie,

it sounds a lot of pages but you can skip through them by entering page numbers at the top, guessing roughly where you need to be, so it doesn't take as long as you might think

I did check the Newcastle transcripts up to 1856, just incase Patrick Docherty was on there, jumped to the last 5 pages and someone must have dropped the transcripts on the floor when scanning them as the were all 1822 instead of 1854-6.

I think I'll be getting kicked out of York library when I go visit to check out their family history centre, I'll have a list as long as my arm of IGI and GRO numbers to check through.  They are supposed to have access to all records but I did notice in the newspaper article it did mention also having access to Ancestry for records so I wonder if it will turn out to be another resource (money making USA monopoly) that belongs to Ancestry.

 I did contemplate buying the gold membership from GR but I cannot find much about it to compare to Ancestry, GR seem to be mainly bmd after 1837 and England/Wales 1841-1901 census, I've not seen any info on Boyds, Parish Records  or Bishops Transcripts on there.
