If they do abolish the next census, how will they get statistics for the country? Ive had a discussion with this with several people but we cant come to some agreement on how it could be done.

I'm afraid I was far too busy courting my wife-to-be (except that I hadn't proposed by then !) to worry about the 1971 census, but I expect my mum filled it in and included me on it  :)
RIP 1949-10th January 2013

Best Wishes,  Nick.

Wonder how many pages and how long it took to fill in. You can download blanks of the 1841 through to 1901. But wonder if 1911 to 2001 blanks are available?

All the original records of the 1931 census were destroyed by fire in 1942, so a blank of the schedule would not be much use as it will never be available :(
This means that there are no original census schedules for the decades between 1921 and 1951

In 1991, I can remember the horror I felt when arriving at my 'half' of a Suffolk village, I had several housing estates spread out before me which were not there in 1981, and certainly not marked on my street map!

Consequently I was going around all morning and afternoon, dashing home to collect children from school, and then feed the family.  Going out in the evening until 9.30 pm

I remember one woman opening her door and slamming it shut on me - must have been the clipboard!

I knocked again and explained that I was going to leave a form with her etc etc and she again tried to shut the door on me, saying 'I have been at work all day'.
I replied, 'so have I, and I am still working' - she gave in and snatched the forms.
It was 8.30 pm and I did go home early that evening!

Mostly it was a good experience - one of the reasons I volunteered to do it was my interest in family history and wanting to be a part of it.  My husband's ancestor did Framlingham, Suffolk in 1881  ;D

Pat ...
Every time I find an ancestor,
I have to find two more!

SUFFOLK - Pendle, Stygall, Pipe, Fruer, Bridges, Fisk, Bellamy, Sparham - all link to  Framlingham
DERBY - Bridges and Frost (originally Framlingham/Parham)
NOTTINGHAM - Lambert & Selby
BERKSHIRE/then Hammersmith LDN - Fulker
LDN/MDX - Murray, Clancy, Broker, Hoskins, Marsden, Wilson, Sale

GGfather Michael Wilson born Cork, lived Fulham London - moved to Boston USA 1889, what happened next?
