Ager Families from Essex
« on: Saturday 29 January 05 23:29 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for my 3xgreat grandfather Isaac Ager/Agier b.1777/81 .On 1841/51 census states in Steeple bumpstead, I have looked in the parish records for this parish and ajoining parishes without success.
I know Isaac married Charlotte Free in Castle camps, Cambridgeshire in 1823 and they lived all there lives there.
Where do I go from here, Where do I look--Help please.
Regards,
June

I have just found an Ager website, which may be of interest to you.  The link is http://www.rd29.net/cc/people/ager.htm.  My 4x great grandfather was a John Ager from Steeple Bumpstead - or, at least this is the information my late father obtained in the 1930s/40s.  It appears my 3x great grandfather, also a John, changed (or was the name simply misspelt somewhere along the line) his name to Auger.  He was, I understand, born in Radwinter but baptised in Steeple Bumpstead.  I attach a certificate obtained in 1949 by my father confirming John Ager's (Auger) baptism.  I should be most grateful for any further information anyone may have on the Ager family.
