Apprentice records - occupation: Cooper, Leith/Edinburgh

Could anyone tell me if it is possible to find an apprenticeship record for someone born in 1856 in Edinburgh, Scotland who probably served his apprenticeship in Leith.

The link below should take you to a whopping 941 page directory of Edinburgh apprentices but it only goes up to 1800 so not of use to you directly.  

You maybe able to look for places that employed cooper apprentices which would help your searching?

Thanks Pam for that.  It is a useful site to know about anyway and has gone on my Favourites List.  There were some Coopers on it, but as you say, too early for me.
