Hubbard

I have just received the marriage certificate for John Wright and Ann Elizabeth Ottaway in 1853. It shows Ann's father as William Ottaway. I have also now got a copy of their daughter Mary Jane Wright's birth certificate, which shows Ann's maiden name as Hubbard. Would anyone have any suggestions a s to why they may have changed their surname and would there be any legal notification to check?
My other question is I would like to view the Tonge parish registers but they are not held at either Maidstone or Canterbury. Does anyone know how I would be able to see them?
