Derby marriage PHIPPS/DAKIN
« on: Wednesday 24 September 08 23:13 BST (UK) »
Good evening :)

I am looking for the parents of Ann(ie) Dakin Born in Derby in 1916. I know the surnames are Dakin and Phipps, it could possibly be Harold Dakin and Emma Phipps but this is not definate. I have tried Free bmd but not much luck, have found the two names separately but in different years.
Ann(ie) married Lyndon Henry Slater in 1939 in Shardlow, Derby and had at least two brothers called Leslie and Ernest. Her uncle (Harry Phipps) was killed on the HMS Formidable in 1915.
Any help in finding this marriage would be great, and anything further back even better! :D

Harry PHIPPS who died 1915 age 41
http://www.cwgc.org/
Son of Enoch and Annie Phipps, of Yew Cottage, Victoria Avenue, Borrowash, Derby.

When you say "anything further back " - do you already have Census etc for Enoch and Annie, and already know if they had a daughter named Emma?

Cheers

Unfortunately - whilst there was only one Emma Phipps in Derbyshire - there are several Henry Dakins who were all born in the 1880's

You will need a copy of the Phipps/Dakin marriage cert to establish Henry's age at the time of marriage and his fathers name.

We should then be able to find him on the censuses for you

Using the reference I gave you above - you can order a copy cert online for £7 at www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/
