Joseph Clarke/ Ann King marriage look up please
« on: Thursday 25 September 08 16:24 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I was just wondering if someone could do a look up for the marriage of Joseph Clarke to Ann King at St Mary's in 1829? I'm trying to find their parents if they are at all mentioned on the records...occupations would be interesting too!
Many thanks.

Hi Burto

I've just checked on the Notts FHS and their marriage is listed but no mention of parents or occupations. Just the date 6th July 1829 @ St Marys Nottingham.
Not much help I'm afraid. I've also tried FreeReg, but no luck there either.

Hi Babygirl101,
Thanks for that...would that information be unavailable on the actual record as well?

All the marriage certificates I have are dated post 1837, but they do show the fathers names and their occupations and the details of the witnesses to the marriage, so it would probably be worth trying to get hold of a copy. The marriage certificate doesn't give details of the mothers though, but it would give you a starting point.

Assuming that Ann King was born in Nottingham there are several possible sets of parents shown in the baptism registers, but none of them have occupations listed, the same goes for Joseph. If you'd like the possible names feel free to let me know and I'll put them on here, but I'm not sure that they'll help in your search very much to be honest.

Hi,
Thanks for that, without knowing their parents I guess it's pointless posting the baptisms, but thanks for offering!
This is off topic, but noticed you have Price's from Nottinghamshire too-how far back are you with yours?
Does anybody know whether it was usual not to include father's names on parish records?
Thanks.

Hi Burto

Sorry for the delay in repying to your question - sadly work tends to take priority  :(

You asked about the Price family in Nottinghamshire, the furthest back I have managed to get to is Richard Price b. 1796 and his wife Mary. They were the parents of :-

Richard

Hiram and ...

Matilda

This 'Price' part of the family hails from Newark for centuries as far as I have found to date.  Hope this helps

Hi,
My ancestors are:
Mary Ann Price baptised 18/11/1821 Radford
Parents: John and Ann Price
I was having trouble finding John and Ann's marriage in Nottingham itself and was curious to see you had some from Newark!

Hi,
Just want to query this again. If I was to go to the archives and look for the microfiche of the 1829 marriage, would it tell me the names of Joseph and Ann's fathers?

This is an example of a parish marriage register, the date 1829, as you can see there is no place for the parents of the bride and groom, just solemnised by us (B&G) in the presence of us ( witnesses) who may or may not be parents. So sadly I think you are on a hiding to nothing. :-\
If it were me I would look for them on the 1851 census get a general idea of their birth year and place and then look at possible baptisms, but with names as common as King and Clark(e) you could have a very long list!! in fact on NFHS there are 18 baptisms coming up for Joseph Clark* and 16 for Ann* King between 1800- 1820
There are  only 7 baptism's for a child of a Joseph & Ann(e) Clark(e) on NFHS dates 1838 +-10yrs
Nottingham St Mary
15-2-1830 Salome Asenath Clark abode Washington St, father a lawyer.
The others are all 1840 onward.
Sorry I cannot be of more help.
