« on: Friday 26 September 08 20:02 BST (UK) »
I have managed to trace my family tree back to JOHN COLLISON (brn 1768 Langley Kent Uk). He married ELIZABETH SAXTON (BRN 1766 Boughton Malherbe Kent) on 22nd Sep 1782 in Staplehurst Kent. I can't find ether of their birth certificates or marriages certificate so I can't trace their parents so can't go any futher back. can any one help please?

Thank You

Hi gc1, welcome to RootsChat :)

Certificates weren't issued until July 1837, before that we have to rely on Parish Registers (PRs)

I've got transcripts of the Langley PRs, & I've found this Baptism:
13th September 1767
John  son of Thomas & Mary COLLISON.

I haven't got the Boughton Malherbe Baptisms, so I can't help with Elizabeth.

IGI shows a John Collison christened on 9 Jan 1768 in Langley, parents are shown as Thomas and Mary. Any help?

Hello Betty & loafer

thank you both. There seems to be a different regarding his baptism / christening date but his parrents seem to be the same.

Thank you

Hi Gerry

The IGI entry is submitted, which should always be treated with a large pinch of salt. Extracted entries on the IGI are generally accurate.
And, to add to the fun, there's a tree on Ancestry with a John Collison, born Langley 1768 parents John & Elizabeth!

Hi Betty

As you may have guessed I am new to this so thank you for your help. The John Collison I am interested in, who married Elizabeth Saxton, dad was also John Collison who married Mary Ann in 1822 Headcorn Kent. So another John would indeed add some fun. Is there a way of finding out which of this possible pair, Thomas and Mary or John, is the right one?

Do you have any other Collisons in the area of Hollingbourne or Headcorn pre this time or is there some way I can get hold of the information?

Many Thanks
Gerry (gc1)

The marriage licence dated 22 September 1782 states the John is a labourer and that Elizabeth's surname is SAXTON.  Neither was widowed.  No additional info I'm afraid.
