Basil Cranch Family
« on: Saturday 27 September 08 01:03 BST (UK) »
I have found some photos in my Mothers photo album which include photos labelled Basil and Fred, Eric and Edie, Fred, Basil Edie and Eric, on same page is Ray who is standing with Prize Cups he had won.  It would appear that Basil is the father of Fred, Eric could either be a brother or son of Fred and Ray a son of either Fred or Eric.  I am very keen to see where they fit in with my mother's family as they are referred to as cousins  Her parents were Samuel and Elizabeth Cranch who originally lived and had their 8 children in the Carterton area from where a number of the children married and the others married from Cambridge area where their parents moved.  There must have been a close relationship between the families for photos to be in the family album and for studio photos to be sent to Elizabeth Cranch and family. One studio photo is of a young Fred Cranch with his wife and two boys, their names confuse me a bit as the toddler is Basil and the baby old enough to be sitting is  Eric.   A big question for me who was Basil's father.  I have come across a William Cranch who married a Miss Goldsworthy and had a daughter Maria at Thames dated 1868, they are also a puzzle.  It appears from an English Chatroom that Maria is connected to someone in France who has not responded to the email my English connection sent, but who had expressed interest in Maria's parents names.   Any help would be much appreciated.  BELLBIRD

Hi Bellbird

Frederick and Edith ("Fred and Edie") CRANCH are both buried at Waikumete Cemetery, Auckland.

The cemetery record at (Waitakere) website has an added note regarding the wording on a plaque ... it identifies Fred and Edith as the parents of "Basil, Eric and Ray".       :)

Records for Basil and Eric - also there.

(I'm still hunting to find "Ray" for you).

Hi Bellbird

Here's the slightly confusing bit.    ???

Were there TWO chaps named "Basil CRANCH" ... born about the same time ??

I've just looked at the entry in IGI (familysearch.org) ... "Basil CRANCH - born 11 May 1914 - Mt. Eden, Auckland - died 30 April, 1938 - parents Frederick George and Edith Annie" :
(OK, this is a submitted entry, which should be treated with caution).

AND .... Basil Ian CRANCH - died Auckland, 5 March 2006 - 91 years - (born circa 1914-15).      ???
(From Waikumete cemetery record ) :

(A check of the Birth and Death Indexes should sort this out).   :)

Just some incidental info  ...

A record for a "Samuel George CRANCH" (1914-18) at the Auckland War Memorial Museum website, shows the next-of-kin for this Samuel as being

"F. G. CRANCH (brother), Mt. Eden, Auckland"     (Frederick George - perhaps ??) :

(There is a further address which shows - "The Avenue, Mt. Eden") .
