Te Henui Cemetery, New Plymouth
« on: Saturday 27 September 08 08:43 BST (UK) »
Would anyone be visiting Te Henui Cemetery in the near future who might be able to check a grave for me please? I have recently learned that my grandfather William Maude is buried in Plot 29 of the 1954 Extension Block G. I would like to know if there is a headstone and what information is on the headstone.

If anyone could oblige I would be most thankful.

Diana

No, I do not have the death notice.  I found the grave on the online cemetery records for Te Henui  and got the grave number from New Plymouth Council by email, as the number shown online seemed odd.

My grandfather William Maude died 17 Feb 1958 aged 93. He was buried 18 Feb 1958 in Plot 29, 1954 Extension Block G. I would love to know if there is a headstone and what is recorded on it.  If there is a headstone to view, I would make a trip across the Tasman to see it.

I doubt if there was a death notice.  The family was estranged many, many years earlier and we all had been led to believe he had died well before the above date.  I have now got his death certificate and found he had married again, so he and my grandmother must have been divorced in New Zealand, very early in the 1900's when she returned to Australia. My father grew up believing his father had died. Shocking, isn't it?

Thanks so much for your kind offer. I am really excited at the prospect of finding if there is a headstone!

I wonder if the New Plymouth council can tell you via email if there is a headstone there or not.  Sould think they have some kind of record about this sort of thing

Hi Diana

I have found a death notice for your William, it only mentions his 2nd family. Bernice Peggy Simpson buried Awanui Cemetery but have no idea if this will be the step daughter. I can't find Minnie's death.

There is an entry in the NZSG Index for a marriage between a William Maude and a Minnie Alice Newton, in 1913, folio 0256.

If you would like to PM me your email Addy I'll send through the death notice.
