Fay Hoevy Purdy New York State

Would someone be able to find me information on Fay Hoevy Purdy born around 1860 in New York State. How would I be able to find his birth? What information is online?  I have seen the 1880 census but cannot be sure it is the right person as they only give the middle initial. I don't have access to Ancestry and would be very grateful for any help, thanks Jabawak

What is your source for the information you have (approx birthdate and place)?  There's a public member tree on Ancestry which has a Fay Hoevy Purdy born 4 April 1855, place unknown, and died in South Africa.  He is said to have had a son of the same name born at Kimberly, South Africa on 30 June 1904 who died at Cape Town in 1962.  I've no idea how reliable any of that is, but is it likely to be the same family?

Thahkyou both for your replies, I am trying to help a friend with his Family History. Fay Hoevy Purdy was his great grandfather, and he was born in USA and went to South Africa. What we need to do is find out if the Fay H Purdy in the census has the middle name Hoevy. It seems to be an unusual middle name. What documents would have middle names in full instead of just initials? and how can I search online for his birth certificate? The only way I can get into Ancestry is a day at the National Library in Canberra and that can't happen til after the school holidays that have just started. I have Grandma duties. Jabawak

You won't be able to get a birth certificate for Fay as they start at 1881. I suggest searching online for churches in Wayne County, most specifically Palmyra and Galen.

Also, and although we all know trees online aren't always reliable sources, they can be good places to start and get some kind of information. I would be happy to contact the people who have contributed to the OWT on ancestry. Send me a PM with how you would like them to contact you.

You might call or write the cemetery to see what they have on their internment cards.  I assume you are looking for the son, b. ~1865.  There might be a will for this Fay H Purdy that lists the names of the children or a land deed that gives the full name.
