Ogram Burkes
« on: Monday 29 September 08 13:18 BST (UK) »
Hi there

I have recently discovered that my great grandfather was a showman in 1899 and my grandma was born at trafford road fairground in salford.  I would love to look into this further as it has come as a surprise to me as i had no idea at all.  I have contacted the National Fairground Archives who cannot find the surname in their records so I am at a loss as to how to research this side.  Any help or advice would be gratefully apreciated.

thank you

samantha

Do you have your grandma's birth cert? I think that would be the place to start.

So - that was 1899 then? what was her mum's name and what was her name - then we might be able to find them in 1901 census.

Hi Thanks for the help.

My grandmas name was ELiza Ann Burkes born 12 Jan 1899 and her mum was Eliza Ann Burkes (formerly Seed). I can find her mum on censuses (1891,1881), before she married Ogram in 1894 but can find nothing on the 1901 census for any of them.

i have a feeling the fairground connection comes via the Seed line as I have come across quite a few in my research and the names tie in with the census returns i have found, they have her father John Seed as a general dealer in fancy goods.  just waiting for Eliza Ann Seed's birth certificate to come to confirm that john seed was her father.
