Florence Ceney
« on: Tuesday 30 September 08 13:26 BST (UK) »
Hello Everyone ;D

I'm well and truly stuck here! ???

I seem to have been sent a Birth and a Death Certificate of an Edward Ceney, who was born August 1909 and died 15 days later September 1909.  I have recently sent off for Birth/Death Certs, but dont remember asking for this one???

This Edward's Mother was Florence Ceney, a Domestic Servant.

I have extensive records of my Ceney family, but not a Florence Ceney that matches up with this woman.

I have found a Florence Ceney in an 1891 Census who was the daughter of Richard and Sarah.  Therefore Florence was born Abt 1882.  I cannot find anything (well not on Genes Reunited anyway... I think there is something on Ancestry but I am not subscribed to it at the moment) in the 1901 Census....

I have found a Florence Ceney Marriage record in 1904.... but surely if she married she would have a different surname?  So that does not not relate to it.

Oh dear, I am at a loss here... can anyone shed any light on the subject for me.... :-\

PS...

I have a Richard Ceney in my records, DOB Abt 1855.... he's in the 1891 Census married to Sarah Ceney.... But in my records I have him married to Elizabeth Hawkins... Apr/May/June 1881

Maybe he remarried?  Did they do that in those days?

 ??? ???

There a Florence c1886 West Brom in FreeBMD - she's with parents John and Clara in the 1901 West Brom.

1901-  RG13/2723; Folio: 132; Page: 12

and maybe this is her marriage in 4Q1909 ? This would be after that birth/death of an Edward ....

where do your records come from? have you substantiaited them with certs etc?
Either there are two Richard Ceney's one married to Sarah and one to Elizabeth, or the same chap remarried (of course theydid that in those days! If first wife died) or there is one wife soemtimes called Sarah and sometines Elizabeth!
You will have to do some more detective work and find more eviidence to find out which is the case!

I have a John + Clara in my records.... so we are on the right track, but they have two children Alice + Lucy + no Florence.  I will have to look at that copy of the 1901 Census.

I will also check out that marriage record too.

I have also found a married of Florence and Hayes :)

Thanx

Given that Clara's maiden was EDEN - this is most likely your lass in 1891.
