Bridwell Prison??
« on: Monday 06 October 08 01:43 BST (UK) »
I found out that one of my ancestors, in about 1821, was sent to Bridwell, Devon for "having a bastard child sworn against him", he was there for 3 - 4 days until his Master bailed him out.
Was Bridwell a prison or just somewhere they put people to deal with illegitimate births?
Thank you
