Buchanan family

Hello there
Can anyone help me please.  My daughter is married to a Buchanan.  Her husbands fathers name was Mervin William Buchanan and Mervin's mothers name was Ivy.  They settled in Tuatapere.  Her mother in law was from Ruatoria and surname was Hauraki.  Any help with this family would be great.

Mervin William BUCHANAN was the son of Ivy and  ??

>   Was this a family that settled in Tuatapere (or just Mervin and his mother ) ?

>   Do you have the death certificate for Mervin  ?

We really need some clarification   ... and some dates would be helpful too.

Hello there

Many many thanks for all the information that you have given me, it is much appreciated.

The only information that I have is that my son in laws birth certificate.  On this it shows his father now deceased,

Mervin William Buchanan - aged 33 in 1987 born in Tuatapere. At this point in time his ashes have not been buried or scattered.

His mother who is still alive and maiden name Tainui Huraki born in Ruatoria.

My son in law only knows the name of his grandmother IVY.

I have tried the Whakapa site but have had no answer.

Some time ago some one sent a letter to my daugher and son in law asking them to fill in their details so that it could be added to the family tree.  They were promised a copy of the tree but it still hasn't arrived.

I am really sorry but I haven't got any more information and I would dearly love to get some for my grandchildren and my son in law.

Hi Avril

In order to advance your search, the next thing to do is to obtain the birth record for Mervin William BUCHANAN, which will confirm the names of his parents.

Mervin (died 1987 aged 33 years) - born about 1954, but perhaps best to check on NZ Birth Index, before ordering the record.   (Purchasing a "printout" rather than actual certificate, is recommended - it's the less expensive option and generally offers more information).

Hopefully we can help you further once you've got this additional info.

 Now, not to state the obvious, but why doesn't he ask his mother ?

Hello there

Well my big apologies for the big mistake I made.  When I was looking at my son-in-laws birth certificate I looked at the date at the bottom, which was August 1987, instead of the acutual birth day.

Now his father, Mervin William Buchanan was 38 yrs old in August 1987 and his mother was 33 yrs old.

My son-in-law came around last night and I got the name of his grandfather and mother ----William James Buchanan and Ivy Elspeth.

Again sorry for my confusion and any help on this family would be great.
