Caerphilly burial information/Boars Head Inn
« on: Friday 10 October 08 16:34 BST (UK) »
I am searching for the burial location of Evan Evans who died May 12th 1857  at the time of his death he was the owner of the Boars Head Inn in Caerphilly and was described as an Innkeeper/Blacksmith.   If anyone has any idea where he might have been buried at this time or what cemeteries existed then I would be very grateful.   Any information then on how to get the records for the cemeteries would also be appreciated.  Also has anyone any information on the Boars head Inn Caerphilly and its location please.

Many thanks

Jane

Under public houses -the Boars head Inn gets a mention -sounds a lively place!

The Boar's Head was a very popular place in the 60's and 70's. They had a great disco. In later years it gained a bit of a rep for drugs.

Hi. Jane

The attached photo  shows the Boars head hotel and although the name has long been painted over you will just see the outline.
As far as cemeteries are concerned the following were around in the 1850s
Tonyfelin Welsh Baptist
Watford Congregational
St.Ilan Church Eglwsilan
Groeswen Chapel
I believe the Glamorgan FHS has momumental inscriptions on microfiche on all or most of them and no doubt the Glamorgan R.O will have details as well.
As a matter of interest Tonyfelin and the Watford are the closest to the Boars Head which may or may not have a bearing with St Illans being about 6 miles away.
Regards Hugh

Thanks so much for the picture and the burial information.  I think I will need to make another trip to the Glamorgan Records office or down to the Glamorgan FHS resourse centre.  I have recently joined as a member and keep thinking I must go down and do some research.

Hi
Glamorgan Record Office in Cardiff have the old parish records for St. Martins, might be worth giving them a call.
anything and everything to do with the village of Brithdir, near New Tredegar in Gwent.
