Christiana appears in the 1881 Census at the age of 18 as a General Servant in the household of Joseph & Mary WARD at Alger Kirk & Amber Hill.

What the census image actually says - the place - Algarkirk Fen now Amber Hill.

Please be aware that there are two Kirtons in Lincs (both known as Kirton on censuses)
1) Kirton in Lindsey - where your lot were - 6 miles south of Scunthorpe;
2) Kirton in Holland - coincidentally, only a couple of miles from Algarkirk - 3 miles south of Boston.

They are about 55 miles apart by road.
Don't cry because its over. Smile because it happened.

Can't pin them down in 1841 but this is 1871 RG10; Piece: 3366; Folio: 80; Page: 35 - Branston

In 1871 Rebecca Holmes is living alone in Branston, she is a widow aged 67 and a pauper.

She died -
Jul-Aug-Sep  1873 Keighley (1837-1946) Yorkshire - West Riding Vol: 9a Page: 114
Age at Death: 70

That seems odd - she was buried at Branston 15 Feb 1886 aged 86.  Francis was buried 11 Sept 1860 (69).

Never mind, it seemed a bit rash to me to go nearly 100 miles just because the name fitted. ;)

There are possible birth's for both Francis and Rebecca that might be of interest on www.familysearch.org

You can also see Rebecca alone aged 79 in the 1881 census on this site.

Laurina, Geoff,

Many thanks for your dialogue ! And for pointing out the points about the 2 Kirtons and Algarkirk.

Your input greatly appreciated. Thank you both.
