Martin Dooley DOB 1902
« on: Sunday 12 October 08 22:11 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

Wondering if there is anyone (by chance) that would have information on my Grandad - he married a Dubliner called Christina O'Hanlon & I know that he had twin sisters called Anastacia(?) & Stella.

If by chance there might be a connection I'd be delighted if you could get in touch with me - if you are able to tell me how I should look him up (unfortunately I dont't know what area they were from) I'd be most grateful.

Many thanks,

Elaine

Hello Elaine,

When Griffiths Valuation took place in Waterford in 1848-51 there were families named Dooley living in the following parishes ...

Clonmel, Drumcannon, Dungarvan, Dysert, Fews, Kilbarrymeaden, Kilculliheen, Kilmoleran, Mothel, St Johns Without, Tallow and Trinity Without.

Elaine if you don't have Martin's birth certificate it would be a good idea to get it. Will list names of both parents (unless illegitimate), father's occupation and exact place of birth (townland) which will give you a starting place to search for church records (if they exist) and other records.
1911 census will also be useful if the family (parents, Martin, siblings) were all in the same household).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

You could also write to Waterford Archives, at High Street, Waterford, and ask them to do a search of their register of electors, you might find out what street he lived in, thats if he lived in the city.

Here is another bit of information for Eleanor Dooley:

Eleanor Dooley married John Ryan Feb.2 1860 at Kill, Co. Waterford.

Could Eleanor be related to Martin Dooley?

Kathy :)

Thanks to the Census I was able to find that my Grandfather came from Ballybricken in Waterford.

Anyone with connections to any Dooleys in the City of Waterford I'd like to hear from you to see if there are any connections.

Many thanks,

Elaine

Anastasia Dooley emigrated to the USA, need to look up the dates, but in any case was living in NY 1925.  She came from Waterford.
