TITCOMBE COMPLETED
« on: Monday 13 October 08 11:30 BST (UK) »
Hi All

I am looking for a Joseph and Eliza Titcombe that would have arrived in NZ some time between 1862 and 1870.
Wondering if there are any children born to this couple, maybe in Dunedin

Regards Sue

Hi Sue

All I can find at present for TITCOMBE / TITCOMB surname, is the following marriage.

Eliza TITCOMBE
William John LYONS
Year - 1869    (Folio # 0884)

(Nothing for surname Titcombe on Dunedin cemeteries database).

Where might this couple have arrived from  ...  UK ?

Lu

Yes, well Archives "Archway" website is a usual "first port of call "  .... and, along with numerous other resources,  has already been checked.   :D

Hi Sue

What information do you have to believe he came to NZ?

It can't be information from a birth cert as you are asking us to look for children......

Hi All

Thanks for all your help
Yes Lu that is the marriage.
I found Joseph and Eliza living together on the 1861 census with her mother Eliza and brother Charles and his wife to be Christiana Diprose.
Then found the marriage for Eliza. So think they must have came out to NZ just after she married.
Found this artricle on PP
http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast?a=d&srpos=6&cl=search&d=WCT18980503.2.9&e=-------en-PubMetaWCT-1----0morgan+ross-all
Which is why i think she came out but also can not find her with Joseph on the census after 1861
Wonder if Joseph died and she remarried.

Regards Sue

Hi Sue

I see where you're coming from.

That NZ marriage - Eliza TITCOMBE to John LYONS - 1869 - is a possibility then ?

There is an Eliza LYONS - died at Christchurch 1918 ... although born circa 1847 - might have been a bit young for marriage to Mr. TITCOMBE in 1862 ?     (There again, age may be incorrect on cemetery record)  ???

Will search a little further for you.
