A lost Eliza Perkins
« on: Tuesday 01 February 05 15:36 GMT (UK) »
Great great grandmother Eliza Perkins is a puzzle. Looking at the 71,81,91 and 1901 censuses there are variations in age and place of birth. In 1871she is married to a Thomas Carter her age is 37 and born Middlesex Bow.In 1881,same family she is 44 and was born in Little Baddow.1891 she is 56 and place of birth is Bow. In 1901 she is 64 and place of birth is London N.K.
Where do I start looking for a birth certificate. Would appreciate ideas or help on this tricky situation.
Out of interest the family seem based in the Rochford area.
Thank you

I might suggest that these are two different people! The ages of the 1881 and 1901 are consistent. the ages of the 1871 and 1891 are consistent and the birthplace in both is Bow.
It is hard to keep accurate track of older folk on the censuses as their children leave and then it is often confusing. Eliza was exceptionally popular and Perkins is far from rare. 8)
Southern or Southan [Hereford , Monmouthshire & Glos], Jenkins, Meredith and Morgan [Monmouthshire and Glos.], Murrill, Damary, Damry, Ray, Lawrence [all Middx. & London], Nethway from Kenn or Yatton. Also Riley and Lyons in South Africa and Riley from St. Helena.

I am sure this is the same family as by 1861 there were 2 children who appear on the later censuses and can be followed through. Also Thomas is down as a carpenter on all of them.
