Adivice needed where to go next
« on: Saturday 18 October 08 17:06 BST (UK) »
I've found everyone on these lists to be very helpful before and now I find I need more help. I really don't know where to look next and pointers would be appreciated.
I realise I'm going in the wrong direction here but bear with me.
My husbands Great uncle William Gammon sailed from Liverpool to Nova Scotia in 1911(found that info) he settled in near Central Butte, Saskatchewan March 1914 and I have found the Homestead file and description.
Now I want to know if he stayed there, if he married and had children.
I'm open to any suggestions as to where I should look next for this info.
I'm living in the states and so cannot go and check the records out myself.
Thanks
Lesley

You don't say what year he was born, but could this be him?

Would he have been of an age to be in WWI?
Census information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

Oh how I wanted that to be him, but unfortunately he was born in 1891 not 1881.
He had the middle name of Henry.
I suppose he could have been in WW1 but haven't been able to find him in any records.

Well, I think that jorose may indeed have found your man, and the dating was out due to people's memories...
Remember they had no children which means someone other than family wrote that on their behalf.

if your William Henry Gammon went off to war soon after entering the district , then they may only remember him upon his return....
Look at this map to see the actual proximity of the two towns...Central Butte is just an hour car drive North of Parkbeg...(  a little longer as the crow flies by horse drawn cart )
I would say this is likely your man....and you should probably research this Wm Gammon who served in Mesopotamia ww1...

I see he is not on the list of ww1 signups in Canada...but there are 7 William H. Gammon on the u.k. archives war medal search...he may have returned to serve...
